Pastor Breonus M. Mitchell Sr.

​

Pastor Breonus Mitchell's calling is to advance the Kingdom of God through the preaching and teaching of the Gospel. He is married to the former Jacquita Haynes of Murfreesboro, TN. He is the father of Breonus M. Mitchell Jr and Brennon Michael Mitchell.

Pastor Mitchell graduated a Distinguished Scholar from Donelson Christian Academy (1991). He received a BA in Pastoral Studies from American Baptist, a Master of Theological Studies from Hazelip School of Theology at Lipscomb University, and holds a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Memphis Theological Seminary with a project focused on A MODEL FOR STRATEGIC PREACHING: USING THE RHETORIC AND STYLE OF BLACK PREACHING AS A TOOL FOR LEADING BLACK CONGREGATIONS TO ADDRESS EDUCATIONAL DISPARITIES. He has studied at Regents Park of Oxford University Oxford, England, receiving a Certificate in Textual Exegesis, Hermenuetics, and Homiletics. He has received an honorary doctorate from St. Thomas Christian University in Jacksonville, FL (2016).

 

Pastor Mitchell has commitments to various religious, social, civil, and political identities. He is a lifetime subscribing National Association for the Advancement of Color People member. 

 

Pastor Mitchell is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Omicron Sigma Lambda Chapter (Murfreesboro, TN). He is also an active member of the following organizations: Prince Hall Lodge No. 1, Mt. Sinai Chapter 135 Holy Royal Arch Mason serving as Past Grand High Priest, Mt. Ararat Council No. 5 Royal & Select Masters, Apollo No. 1 Knights Templar and J. A. Henry Consistory No. 48, Order of the Eastern Stars Eclipse Chapter 220, all in Nashville, TN. He is also a member of the 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee.

 

Pastor Mitchell is the author two books - A Fish Called Mercy and Not Normal. He is a contributing writer for Lifeway Christian Resources YOU Curriculum. 

 

Pastor Mitchell was called to the pastorate of the Boyce Street MB Church on December 29, 1993. On April 27, 1997, he founded Greater Grace Temple Community Church and served for nineteen years. On April 3, 2016 he was called as the 11th pastor of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, where he continues to serve.
